Jennifer Kalt
Lecturer - Environmental Planning
Jennifer Kalt is a botanist with over 15 years of conservation and advocacy work on the North Coast. She is the Director of Humboldt Waterkeeper, a non-profit organization that works to protect water quality and habitat in the Humboldt Bay area. From 2001 to 2010, she worked on behalf of California Indian Basketweavers to protect native plants and drinking water supplies from forestry herbicides, which combined her passion for conservation with environmental justice issues. In her role with Humboldt Waterkeeper, she continues to protect the environment with an emphasis on water quality for human health as well as wildlife.
As Director of Humboldt Waterkeeper, she launched the Humboldt Bay King Tides Photo Initiative in 2011 and tracks Sea Level Rise issues in local plans and policies. She is a founding member of the Humboldt Sea Level Rise Institute and has been a Lecturer in Humboldt's Department of Environmental Science & Management since 2016.
